Ian Vaughan, by profession a chartered surveyor, was using photography in that job several times a week. On his retirement in 1980 he was given a reflex camera as a parting gift and became interested in Nature Photography. He did a couple of safaris in Africa and this got him on the road to more nature photography
He joined the RPS as a life member and the nature group and attended several field meetings and has arranged some 5 or 6 meetings himself over the years. In 1991 he started spending the winters in Florida and being close to some of the best reserves in America for water birds he then settled into bird photography. He became the first in the portfolio to make the change to digital photography
He has now switched to Sony equipment which is much lighter than the Canon equipment he had been using and finds this satisfactory as one gets older.
