Mike Read
Mike Read is a professional wildlife and landscape photographer living in Ringwood, Hampshire.

Most of us who enjoy walking in the countryside can appreciate the contrasting colours, shapes and textures of the natural world, but many of us miss the details. Mike's observational skills enable him to capture these details on film; he also has an instinctive ability to see the artistic potential within a certain subject. The resulting photographs are often stunning in their simplicity and beauty of composition, elevating them to works of art.

Mike rarely works on commissions, owing to the limitations that are often imposed by clients; instead he prefers the freedom which enables him to photograph the species, scenes and subjects that catch his eye. This policy is obviously successful, as his stock photography is now selling well in Britain, Europe and many other parts of the world. As well as running his own stock library (see www.mikeread.co.uk), Mike is represented by three photographic agencies.

As the co-author of four books, he supplied most of the photography for 'The Robin', and all of the photographs for 'The Barn Owl' and the recently published 'Guide Book to the South Downs'. He took the stunning images for 'New Forest Moods' which he also wrote.

Mike also makes time to lecture and write about his love of the natural world and nature photography.  He has considerable experience as a tour guide and leads easy going wildlife watching tours to many parts of the globe for The Travelling Naturalist (www.naturalist.co.uk), a tour company based in Dorchester. His tours for 2004 include Jamaica for winter sunshine and endemic birds, four tours to various parts of France, including Corsica in April and la Brenne in May. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks in the USA's Rocky Mountains, the Azores for whales and birds and Hungary for the autumn migration of Cranes are other locations to feature in a packed year.
